| Anticline of Ramon is crossed almost on all duration by a huge crater (mahtesh) and only on the western suburb still there mountain ridges with outstanding top of Shen Ramon. The mountain Ramon is the highest of Negev Mountains and towers to the height of 1030 meters above sea level. The crater of Ramon is the greatest of similar formations in the world. The crater is located on the territory of two nature reservations - “Mazok a zinim” and “Shmurat ar ha-Negev” thanks to that the crater is full of various flora and fauna. The sizes of the crater Ramon are about 40 kilometers at length and 9 kilometers at width, average depth of a crater is about 400 meters. On the brink of a crater, in its northern part the picturesque small town Mitzpe Ramon is located. Here the highway number 40 begins the descent to the crater through “Maale Azmaut”. The view of the crater Ramon from city height probably the most unforgettable - an enormous crack in earth crust, iridescence effect: a spectrum of paints from whiteness of a cardboard to various shades yellow, a redness and purple of a Nubian stone and black pyramids of magmatic eruptions. At the bottom stretches a greenish strip of the sparse vegetation which is pressing close to channels of various streamlets and rivulets, flowing down in a crater.
